Old Mother Hubbard
Helmut was a very greedy dog. It would eat all day long.
It would eat ANYTHING and EVERYTHING.
Its tummy was as big as a giant's cave.
But today, Mother Hubbard's cupboard was empty.
There wasn't even a bone left.
Helmut had eaten EVERYTHING.
He had eaten EVERYTHING and there was NOTHING left.
Helmut had always wanted to eat EVERYTHING.
I've eaten EVERYTHING, thought Helmut and grinned.
Old Mother Hubbard had one last look in her cupboard.
Helmut's eaten EVERYTHING, she thought.
I'd better find him SOMETHING or he may even eat me.
I'll beg SOMETHING from my friends.
ANYTHING will do, even a boiled egg,
thought Mother Hubbard as she walked quickly down the lane.
Helmut sat down and had a little think.
He was hungry and there was NOTHING left to fill his tummy.
Think, think, think... Then he thought of SOMETHING.
The butcher's shop!
Steak, tripe, black pudding, bones, pork pies...
There would be EVERYTHING in the butcher's shop.
Helmut looked at Mrs Foster's leg.
There was SOMETHING to bite. He liked teachers' legs.
But he didn't. He'd thought of SOMETHING better.
Mother Hubbard asked the Boot girls if they had any food.
They never had ANYTHING, they were so poor.
'Ask our Mother,' they said.
'Have you ANYTHING for Helmut?' asked Mother Hubbard.
'NOTHING!' said Mrs Boot. 'But I'll share it.'
A half of NOTHING wasn't enough for Helmut.
There was EVERYTHING in the butcher's shop.
Helmut had to choose SOMETHING, and quickly
before the butcher came back. Sausages!!
Helmut grabbed a long string of sausages and ran.
NOTHING tasted nicer than sausages.
There would be SOMETHING for Helmut's tea tonight.
Helmut wanted to get home as quickly as he could.
He took a short cut ... right through the school.
NOTHING could stop him, not even the teacher.
Mother Hubbard still had NOTHING in her cupboard.
There was a little bit of dust and a dead spider in the corner,
but that wouldn't taste nice. WOOF! WOOF!
'Sausages ... SOMETHING to eat,' she cried.
But Helmut swallowed EVERYTHING in one big gulp.
There was NOTHING left ... not ANYTHING.
